Between
the Me and the World...
Divino Sobral
1999

(...) Fábio Carvalho articulates a multimedia circuit - photograph,
video and computer science - to question exactly how much the contemporary
technological and scientific development has collaborated for the alienation
of the individual, placing its statute in crisis when pursuing ambitiously
the creation of an artificially programmable body.
His maneuvers are characterized by a desmystifying attitude, that
invests in the possibility of showing the moments of collapse of these
programs and the vertiginousity of its ways.
Carvalho is an avid kidnapper who captures pictures and texts from magazines,
newspapers, Internet and TV adds, as well he appropriate pictures of his
own body and of anonymous, for re-expose them perversely in complex reflections
on the reversibility space-temporal promoted by the technical devices;
on the crossing of science with the industry and the spectacle; on the
impossibility of providing a veracious identity to the individual and
of obtaining a true index of the Real.
